another nashville night
every once in a while i have a day that reminds me that life doesn’t suck as much as i so often think it does. saturday was that kind of day. there was nothing huge about it… nothing amazing. it was just a very good, very laid back day.
the day started with a bang. literally. i was awoken at about 5am or so the most amazing thunder storm. it sounded like the apartment complex was being shelled. explosion after explosion shaking the house. it was really cool. after a while i fell back to sleep and had a great dream. i don’t remember all of it, but i do remember i bought an old building and built a studio in it. i renovated the upstairs of the building and remade it into a killer apartment. it’s my dream in reality too… good dream.
when i woke up i went downstairs and hooked up a vcr to my computer so i could figure out how to dump my old vhs tapes to dvd. i didn’t get that done, though, because i ran across a tape of some of my old theatre performances from highschool. i spent some time reliving old times.
around 11ish, sh4wn came over and he, the mick, and i went to get some lunch (which really wasn’t that great, but not bad… you know about a b- on the chinese buffet scale). after lunch we wrote music. that was a true blast… i just love studio time. especially with friends. we wrote and recorded another 80’s tune for an ep entitled “music from and inspired by saving throw” – the soundtrack to our 48hr film project entry. it’s not for anything but kicks and giggles, but it’s a heck of a lot of fun. i didn’t want to stop, but it was softball time and, though i don’t enjoy playing softball very much, i said i’d go, so i had to go.
man, i’m glad i went! what a hoot that game was. i played my usual position… bench. shut up, i gotta stick to what i’m good at, right?! our oponents were such fun sports that we just had a good time all around. it was good to hang out a little with folks that i like.
then, it was party time! we all went over to beth’s house and ate and talked and watched the princes’s bride on a big screen in her back yard. it was good times. the weird part is that i enjoyed the ride into town almost as much as everything else. i took these pictures from the passenger seat of evan’s car while we were driving with my crappy little digital camera. i like this camera because it does weird things with light sources when there’s very little ambient light.
i realized that i like nashville a lot better in the night. it seems like all the crap that i hate about nashville disappears when the sun goes down and all the things i like about nashville wakes up and goes out for a spin. that’s why i like to take pictures of nashville at night. that’s when the city doesn’t suck.
after beth’s house, evan and i went by midwtown for some beverages and then it was back to the house to play a little xbox.
and then i went to sleep. the end. that’s it. nothing spectacular – nothing huge. it was just a chill and relaxed day. at midtown, in the checkout line, the clerk asked me how my night was going. i said, “it’s been real calm… real laid back.” he looked at me kinda funny and said, “is that what you were hoping for?” “yeah,” i said, “yeah, it’s been really good… it’s exactly what i needed.” he smiled really big and said, “well, that’s good then! you have a nice rest of the night!”
i did. here’s hoping that you did too, where ever you are and whatever you did.
i have a few more thoughts that i’d like to share, but i’m gonna save them for later…

yes yes. recording and hanging out and eating sub-par chinese food was really fun. i’m hoping for more days like this in the future.
if we can remember days like this, it will remind us why we keep going on, and possibly remind us why we should enjoy days like this more when we do have them. the crappy days will seem worth it to make it to the good days.
i think i ate something with cheese in it at the buffet, but i can’t really remember.

man, way to make me miss nashville. i’m glad to hear your weekend was a good one, though. your camera may suck during the day, but it makes magic at night, apparently.

you gotta watch out for that beth chick… she acts all reserved and stuff, but she’s a sneaky rebel in reality. she’s crazy.
